Md. Shazedull Islam Shakil is an education policy analyst and practitioner from Bangladesh, committed to advancing equity, inclusion, and refugee education. With over six years of experience across Bangladesh and the United States, he has worked with several NGOs and INGOs, including BRAC, Sesame Workshop, Save the Children, and Harvard University, focusing on teacher development, Indigenous and refugee education policy, and culturally responsive pedagogy.
Shakil has extensive experience working with Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, where he collaborated with education partners to design and evaluate inclusive learning initiatives for displaced children and youth. His work emphasized psychosocial well-being, multilingual learning, and teacher capacity-building in emergency education settings.
Currently based in the U.S., Shakil’s work bridges research, practice, and policy to empower marginalized and displaced learners through education reform rooted in justice and participation. He has led initiatives such as BRAC’s inclusive teacher training in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, designing programs that strengthen culturally responsive and context-specific teaching practices for Indigenous and underserved communities.
Shakil earned his Ed.M. in Education Policy and Analysis from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, specializing in Global, International, and Comparative Education, and holds a B.Ed. (Hons) from the University of Dhaka’s Institute of Education and Research. His scholarly interests include critical consciousness in teacher education (Freirean framework), postcolonial and refugee education reform, and justice-oriented leadership.
Recognized with the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (Bronze and Silver Standard) and multiple government scholarships for academic excellence, Shakil continues to champion inclusive, participatory, and equitable education systems that amplify the voices of Indigenous and refugee communities worldwide.
