Isabel, a case worker, dedicates herself to assisting numerous refugees on a weekly basis, addressing their needs in housing, job placement, interpreting, health promotion, and cultural training. Her own journey as a refugee from the civil war in Angola and spending 17 years in a refugee camp in Namibia gives her a profound understanding of the challenges refugees face. Isabel emerged as a leader in the camp, supporting fellow refugees to survive and working for a UNHCR-funded project. Trained and certified as a community health worker by the RI Department of Health, she is currently pursuing a degree at the Community College of Rhode Island. During her leisure time, Isabel finds joy in playing and watching soccer, crafting, and dancing.
