Reception & Placement (R&P)

The R&P program provides funds for refugees to have caseworker support for 90 days from arrival. A dedicated caseworker is provided to each refugee and their family to assist them in navigating their new life. R&P services must include: pick-up at the airport; housing (securing housing, furniture, establishing utilities); transportation training (e.g. how to use the bus); cultural orientation (cultural mores, financial literacy, U.S. laws); enrollment in English language courses; benefits registration; medical care; enrollment in employment services; and, school enrollment. After three months, refugees are expected to be self-sufficient, meaning that they are employed and make enough money to pay their rent and other household expenses. They also need to understand how to navigate relevant systems in the U.S., such as accessing medical care.

New Family Arrivals

Our dedicated team of case workers create a welcoming environment by picking up our new community members at the airport and bringing them to their new apartment. We try very hard to fully furnish the apartment prior to the new family arrival

Housing

Upon receiving notification of a new family joining us, we dedicate ourselves to locating a suitable and affordable apartment in the Providence area. We utilize donated items, including furniture, kitchen essentials, and bedding, to furnish the apartment, ensuring it feels welcoming before we greet them at the airport. This approach allows the family to arrive in the United States to a prepared home after their journey.

Social Services

Refugee Dream Center prides itself on providing essential social services to refugees and asylum seekers after the United States government leaves them on their own after 90 days, which is not even close to enough time to become self-sufficient. We continue to provide crucial social services such as helping support the children, disability services, affordable housing access, and job search assistance, and rental/income assistance.

Transportation

At RDC, we are committed to supporting our community by allocating resources to transportation services. We offer bus cards for local travel and have staff available to personally drive community members to essential activities, such as food distribution, medical appointments, classes, and other important engagements.
