Night Jean Muhingabo

Youth Coordinator

Night Jean Muhingabo is a refugee from Rwanda, born and raised in the Loukolela refugee
camp in the Republic of Congo. After 15 years in displacement, he and his family were granted
asylum and resettled in Providence, Rhode Island. From those humble beginnings, Night has
emerged as a powerful advocate for refugee rights, youth empowerment, and community
justice. Currently a senior at Rhode Island College, he is pursuing a degree in Public Administration
with minors in Data Science and Computer Information Systems. Beyond the classroom, Night
has consistently shown a deep commitment to public service, leadership, and social impact.
He is the former President of the Black Student Union (Harambee) at Rhode Island College,
where he championed equity and inclusion for students of color. He is also a former Chair of the
Board of Directors at the Refugee Dream Center and a board member of the Providence School
Board, where he chairs the Health and Wellness Committee. Internationally, he represents the
United States as a Country Director at the Global Peace Chain, promoting peacebuilding and
youth-led change around the world. His dedication has earned him several honors, including the Rising Star Award from Rhode Island College, the Exemplary Youth Services Award from the Refugee Dream Center, and two Congressional Recognitions from Congressman David Cicilline and Congressman Jim Langevin for outstanding community service. A poet at heart and a leader in action, Night brings courage, empathy, and vision to everything he does. His life is a testament to resilience—and to the power of using one’s voice to build bridges and create lasting change.
