Frequently Asked Questions

We primarily serve those with either refugee or asylum seeker status.

Refugees, asylum seekers, and immigrants are all people who leave their home countries, but they have different reasons for doing so and different legal statuses:

  • Refugees
People who are forced to flee their home country due to violence, war, persecution, or other serious human rights violations. They are unable to return home safely and are granted legal recognition in the country they seek refuge in. Refugees are entitled to certain protections while they seek permanent solutions, but they often face restrictions.

  • Asylum seekers
People who leave their home country to seek protection from persecution or serious human rights violations in another country, but whose claim for refugee status has not yet been determined. Asylum seekers must apply for protection in the country they arrive in.

  • Immigrants
People who choose to leave their home country and move to another country with the intention of settling there permanently. They are free to return home to their country of origin.
