The Health Promotion program focuses on educating members of the Rhode Island refugee community about health issues.

Topics include sessions on:

  • nutrition and diabetes
  • first aid and CPR training
  • mental health
  • lead poisoning in the home
  • a teach-in about the American healthcare system

In a year, a total of at least 45 refugees are served through this program. There were three cohorts in total with each consisting of 15 refugees. Each cohort has five sessions that respond to community members’ specific interests, and cultural orientation needs.
